23rd Mystic International Exhibition

Easy Departure
16" x 20" oil on canvas

The scene is the Chatham Bars at Chatham, Massachusets at about 1900. Several working catboats are outbound for a day of hand-lining. The tide is high, and the wind light, making for an easy ride over the shoals.

The painting is also a study in light with the use of some glazing to accomplish the quiet effect.
