The ship JOHN GILPIN
was built at East Boston by Samuel Hall in 1852. She was built
for the Boston firm of Pierce and Hunnewell. The vessel was
very sharp forward and aft and was classed as a medium clipper.
She admeasured just over 1,000tons with a length over-all of
205 feet. She was considered a moderate sized vessel for the
California trade
